The journey has begun

2 months in, and 2 sessions after, the locks were bubbling up already.

The weaved strands were coiled up into a define spiral pattern, resulting into a completely different look.

3 months into her journey, the shape of the style was more noticeable, it seemed like she was getting her afro back.

The locks were smooth and fluffy, sitting majestically on her scalp in a rounded shape, as if they were grown that way.

5 months in, the locks were still expanding in volume, and the scalp was nowhere to be seen.

We were definitely going on the right direction, the goal was to imitate the way she carried her afro, not an ounce of skin to show.

It is amazing how nature perform,

Taken separately, each single lock was doing its own thing on its own pace, some fattening and/or matting quicker than others.

What does it mean?

Her scalp was simply housing different textures

Different textures = different behaviours.

A well-blended style, in a unique architectural design, she owes it to herself to make an art out of her beautiful strands, and look STUNNING.

Full, to create as much movement as possible

She’s the perfect candidate for a Loreal advert, in slow motion, she shakes her hair and says, “because I’m worth it”.

Voluminous – her locks ever so simply stand out, the newly forming textures were softly and gently seating on her crown.

Just IMPRESSIVE, the picture doesn’t do the locks any justice, she was getting a lot of attention.

It was on that specific day, she excitedly said for the first time: “I don’t want my hair to lock”

Well, what I’m used to hear is “I can’t wait for my hair to lock”

That simple sentence said it all, “she wants the effect to last as long as she carries the style”.

“BINGO” we are now on the same page.

Over the years, I ’ve experienced many excitements, and amazements surrounding the style; especially during that specific stage, in the matting process, when the volume gets to its high point, with a gentle firm texture, that get a “WOW” out of your mouth, eyes wide open.

I was struggling between focusing on the hair to lock quickly and maintaining a long-term visual effect.

And there came a statement “I don’t want my hair to lock” for me to finally decide where to put my attention on.

I came to realise that, it was all about maintaining a long-term visual aesthetic that was the most important.

Focusing on the strands to matt was taking away my attention from maintaining the locks attractive.

“All hairs matt naturally, on their own pace”. This is a fact I  just needed to constantly remind myself.

It is all about mindset, and her statement was the result of past experience.

Yep!!! PAST EXPERIENCE, the best source of knowledge.
